After stocking up on supplies at our favourite grocery shop Jumbo, we left Santa Cruz – a lovely town which we enjoyed a lot. We took back roads for a while and joined the major highway that runs the lengths of Chile – Highway 5 – the speed limit is 120 but most are going faster than that – 2 lanes in each direction and it is toll roads – the trucks turn irrespective of anyone in their way and it is everyone fending for themselves – it was high concentration and with the temperatures soaring to 34 degrees it was a tough day riding. We stopped on the side of the back roads for a lunch with tuna sandwich, coconut water from Pfanner (an Austrian company 😊) and some mixed nuts and mounted our flags on the bikes 😊🇦🇹🇦🇺 On the Highway I had to avoid some chairs that have come off a Ute but we arrived safely, tired, and hot in Chillan where we stayed in a nice small hotel with secure parking for our bikes. We went for a very nice dinner and I treated myself to my first Pisco sour – a Chilean alcoholic drink that tastes very nice 👍😊.
