We had a reasonable early start after an ok breakfast and after I somehow managed to delete a large section of my previous post which I quickly tried to re-type but the first version was better 🙄.

We rode South along Ruta 3 – there were more oil pump stations and then windmills and lots of guanacos and both the lesser and greater Rhea birds making the ride interesting.

We stopped at a petrol station after just 80km and saw two Transalp Motorcycles parked outside with Austrian flags and license plates from Salzburg – what are the chances?😉🇦🇹🇦🇹 We said hello and took pictures and exchanged what’s app numbers. The previous day I had met a guy from Bavaria who has been travelling for 2.5 years on his Honda CRF300 and had been in all South American countries except for Venezuelan.

We continued to Puerto Deseado and the municipal campground – we paid for 2 nights and set up tent – it was very warm and we got a nice spot sheltered from the wind and in the afternoon shade. We had late lunch and a cup of coffe and maté and then got ready to ride to the office of Darwin Expediciones where we managed to get the last two spots on the penguin island tour for tomorrow Saturday which means a very early start. So we decided to get some groceries but then had dinner at a waterfront restaurant with a view over the river, a nice sunset and watched the deep sea fishing boats leave – it is squid fishing season.

We made it back to the campground and sorted things for the 6 hour penguin trip which we are very much looking forward to 😊🐧
