On our first day we slept in, had late breakfast, caught up with family and started organising the next section of our travel South to Ushuaia. We walked to the Sacred Heart cathedral which was locked, got some stickers for our bikes to show where we have been and found a great coffee shop that does all day breakfast where we had avocado on toast in the late afternoon 😉 We then went down to the waterfront and where surprised how many people were on the beach and even in the water. After a picture in front of the Punta Arenas sign, we headed back up the hill and met with my good Australian friends Michele and Peter who just happened to be in South America and we had arranged to meet in Punta Arenas – we went for dinner together at the same great restaurant and it was a long over due catch up.

The next day we spent the whole day together and enjoyed being driven around in their hire car – first we got our tickets for the ferry trip to Povenir sorted and then we went to the Nao Victoria museo where they have life size replicas of the boat of Magellan and Darwin’s Beagle. We spent a few hours visiting the outdoor museum, had coffee included in the price and I had to at least get my legs wet and walked into the Bahia Catalina in the Strait of Magellan. We had a late lunch in town before getting some grocery shopping done and headed to our place where Peter had a look at the leaking fuel tap on Andrew’s bike and his rear suspension. The rear suspension had about an inch of travel before it had all the bags on it and the fuel tap had stopped leaking but started leaking again when Peter switched it from ob to stop but it eventually stopped leaking in the reserve position where we left it. We also tried to pair my fancy Nikon pixa camera to my phone but it was not cooperating 😂. We booked a different restaurant than the previous nights and enjoyed one last dinner together and took some more pictures in front of the Punta Arenas sign before Michele and Peter dropped us off at our accommodation. We unpacked all our warm clothes and put liners in the jackets and pants as the forecast was for only single digits all day and repacked everything ready for an early start to make it to the ferry by 8:30am.

We had such a great time being tourists and hanging out with Michele and Peter and having been able to meet here was very special and we are looking forward to spending more time together when we will be living closer together once we get back to Oz.
