We had a wonderful morning in our dome cabin and our host made lovely breakfast and we listened to Luis Alberto Spinetta who is considered the founder of Argentine rock and he was a poet and songwriter and his birthday January 23 is celebrated as the National Musicisn’s day. While we were at breakfast Elena and her partner (whom we met on the ferry from Punta Arenas to Povenir) rode past on their way back from Ushuaia and stopped by so we could do our baton exchange on the WRWR app and Elena also did a short interview for her fb site. It is very exciting to have now completed the first baton exchange for the year long world relay of women riders – Australia is on top of the leader board with the number of baton exchanges by the way 😉🇦🇺🏍. Our host was so nice and made Elena and her partner coffee as they were cold and he did not charge us any extra for it 🙏

After packing the bikes and putting most of the warm layers of clothing we have with us on, we headed off riding along the entire lake Fagnano and took pictures at a look out where we also left one of our stickers on the sign. We continued on beautiful winding roads over the Garribaldi pass and stopped at the Haruwen motorcycle museum 3005 and moto-café where we had homemade empanadas and cake and a hot chocolate. Lupine flowers in 4 different colours (pink, purple, dark red, and yellow) are blooming everywhere as well as some dark blue corn flowers and we saw bumblebees and one South American gray fox (Lycalopex griseus) wandering around.

The final section of the road to Ushuaia is lined by peat bogs and red grasses and waterways with towering snow capped mountains in every direction you look – even for an Austrian an impressive view. We arrived at the iconic Ushuaia town entrance in light drizzling rain and the signs that everyone takes a picture with are being renovated 😉 but we still got our obligatory pictures and I did a little dance and we then found our bed and breakfast Isla Bella and negotiated to stay an extra two nights until Sunday – the bikes are parked in a courtyard off the street and the room is small but has a private bathroom and will be perfect for the next 4 days to recover, reorganise and get ready for the next section of our trip.

We have made it after 27 days and 4227km and we are in Ushuaia 🙏🏍🏍😍 Andrew had stomped his little toe this morning on a wooden chair and his toe is badly bruised, swollen and sore 😳. We walked downtown to the waterfront and took a picture with the famous sign and visited the art markets where I bought a painting from a talented young artist of a guanaco and we got our tourist passport stamped snd bought Ushuaia stickers for the bikes. We left one of our stickers outside the art markets. We then treated ourselves to a very posh seafood dinner at Kaupe restaurant which was the closest restaurant to our bed and breakfast and it had a view over the city and the Beagle channel and the octopus was the best I have ever eaten 😊

Arriving in Ushuaia
Excitement and arrival dance 😂
