We packed up everything and it was hard to leave as we have come to like that marvellous view of the mountain peaks. We rode through the National Park North on a very corrugated dirt road (Y-150) that shook our motorcycles to pieces and through parts of the park we had not yet seen. We came past Laguna de los Cisnes, where we saw pink flamingoes (my absolute favourite birds of Patagonia ❤️🦩) in the far distance as well as black-necked swans (Cygnus melancoryphus) with cygnets.

We continued on Ruta Y-150 and stopped at Laguna Amarga where there was a plaque for the Pioneers of aviation and then at Mirador del Lago Sarmiento where we had incredible views over the lake and I left another of my stickers there.

We crossed the border into Argentina at Cerro Castillo and continued into Rio Turbio, a coal mining town, where we had a cabana booked. As we arrived according to our maps it was not obvious that the entry to the apartment was in a building labelled Pilates studio – we were parked on a busy road with dogs everywhere and my phone with the details and the code to enter was about to run out of charge 😞 – as Andrew tried to type in the code that I told him through the intercom from the other side of the road it must not have quite been entered correctly – it was hard to see the keypad in the setting sunlight – so the alarm went on and it said it was now locked – meanwhile my phone was dead and it had been a long day and it was freezing cold and I was not happy 😩 – after getting enough charge into my phone to message the host on what’sapp who told us to wait a few minutes and try again, we eventually managed to gain entry – we also asked about where we could park the bikes and he offered we could park them at a neighbour but by the time we had received that message we had managed to ride both bikes onto the footpath and park them right in front of the apartment stairs.

After getting everything off the bikes, we walked into town and did our grocery shopping and had a very nice dinner next to a cocktail bar named “Greenwood” 😉 (which was closed). After dinner, we climbed the steep hill back to our apartment with all the groceries. I tried to hard boil the eggs we had bought but the gas stove’s automatic ignition did not work and our matches were not easily accessible on the bike. When I had a shower, I found out that the gas heater for the hot water supply was also not turned on – so I had a very cold 🥶 shower 😞 that evening and the host wanted cash as the link for money transfer did not work – we agreed on paying in US dollars as we were short on Argentinian pesos and agreed to leave the money on the table in the apartment before we would leave the next day.
