After a very nice breakfast served to our door by our host which we ate in bed, we captured the idyllic cabana and the fire station next to it before getting back onto more dirt road riding. At least the sun was out and the rain had cleared but it was still windy. We continued along the shores of Lake General Carrera on Ruta 265 until we turned onto the famous Carretera Austral (Ruta 7) which is equivalent to the Argentinian Ruta 40. Along the road were stunning views over the lake and the video footage gives a good idea of what the road was like with plenty of potholes. We stopped at mirador del Puente after crossing a nice bridge where lake General Carrera and Lake Bertrand meet to take some photos. Then about 29 km before Puerto Río Tranquilo we encountered roadworks where they had just added a new layer of deep dirt which was difficult to ride on and they were using a grader to compact it – I did mention that the wind was strong again from the left side making it challenging to stay in the wheel ruts – there was no indication on which side of the road the grader came along but he was not going to slow down or stop – it was another challenging section to ride – nice welcome to Ruta 7 😂👍😉.
It was only 59 km in total from Puerto Guadal to Puerto Río Tranquilo, but we were very glad to arrive safely early in the afternoon. The road and scenery were stunning and so much nicer to ride in the sunshine than on the previous day in rain and sleet. We found our accommodation but did not have any coverage to contact the owner that we had arrived early so we parked the bikes on the footpath and walked into town in search for some food – only one place was open on the main street and we ate there – it was rather greasy and the chips were not cooked through and I was already not feeling too well. We walked back to the accommodation and the owner just arrived in time and showed us around and gave us the keys and started the fire in the wood stove when I had another bout of diarrhoea. We were allowed to park the bikes in the back yard which took a bit of manoeuvring them through the high grass and uneven ground past flower beds, but they were hidden from the street and we could access them through a back door from our cabana.
We just rested in the afternoon (I stayed close to the toilet 💩😂) and we had an early night interrupted by two hourly wake-ups to keep the fire going while it rained over night.

Love to hear from you
