We left Ancud after rain showers finally cleared but we were still wearing full wet weather gear as the sky still looked dark. We fuelled up without any queues as the petrol prices had gone up at midnight and headed to the ferry terminal at Chacao. There were more road works before we reached Chacao. We only waited about 20 minutes before we boarded the ferry and paid on board of the ferry. The crossing across the Chacao channel to Pagua on the mainland was very calm and only lasted 30 minutes. We headed to Puerto Montt and had to pay toll on Ruta 5 🙁 back into civilisation. We rode to a Lider supermarket on the outskirts of Puerto Montt to stock up on groceries for our next two days of camping at Ensenada. I took off my one piece wet weather gear at Puerto Montt and we continued on back roads to Ensenada – we had the most incredible views of the volcanoes and then rode along Lake Llanquihue until we reached the campground El Trauco. We turned into the campground and it looked abandoned but a caretaker came and we asked for a site for 1 tent for 2 nights and paid $10,000 Chilean pesos per person per night. He told us to choose any site we wanted – another campground where we were the only people camping 😉 We chose the only sunny spot right at the waterfront with an amazing view of volcano Osorno.
We took a view pictures and set up tent and cooked dinner and enjoyed another blissful sleep in our tent. We used the inner liner in our sleeping bags as temperatures inside the tent were below 10 degrees Celsius.

Love to hear from you
