I had breakfast by myself in the morning as Andrew was recovering from a serious food poisoning. I asked for a late check-out and was told we could stay until 12:30 – 1:00pm. There were still rain showers too and we checked out by 1:00pm but then sat in the foyer until the rain cleared before packing the bikes and heading off to Ancud where we had already booked accommodation. We fuelled up in Castro and there were long queues at the petrol stations and the attendant muttered something about the president. I led the way so that Andrew just had to follow and we rode the 83km with several roadworks and then rode through Ancud and checked into our accommodation right on the shores. Andrew slept the rest of the afternoon and I extended our stay for an extra night to wait out more rain and to give Andrew time to recover and gain more strengths. We walked to a place recommended by the receptionist (Club Social) for dinner and walked along the foreshore and took pictures of the sunset. As we walked past the petrol stations, there were queues for kms and now we had worked out it was because petrol prices were going up in 24 hours. Andrew ate 3/4 of a small pizza and had some appetite back. And we saw the restaurant’s famous cat “Luna” 😉

The next day we had lovely breakfast and stayed in the hotel room catching up on the blogs while it rained most of the day. In the late afternoon when the sun came out, we walked to the Spanish Fort, Fuerte San Antonio. We walked past the Panamericana hotel, where a number of vintage cars were parked including Fords, Cadillacs, and an Essex as well as a 1927 Bugatti type 35B!! Andrew took lots of pictures and was amazed that the Bugatti had the keys in the ignition. For those into cars, check out the pictures of the Bugatti and see if you notice anything (hint: look at the front of the car😉👍).

We walked further to Mirador Playa Arena Gruesa (overlooking a beach and past an open air amphitheatre) to another lookout Mirador Arena Gruesa. We saw a black vulture (Coragyps atratus) and sat overlooking the Pacific and watching the vultures snd other birds soar.

On our way back to the Club Social for dinner, a police car stopped a few meters ahead of us and one officer jumped out in full riot gear and hastily walked towards the park where he met another officer. Good to know the police is out and keeping the town safe 👍

We returned to our hotel room after another nice dinner even though we had to change our order twice due to them not having the ingredients required😂 but the Pisco sour was good and Andrew was well enough to drink beer again. We meant to have an early night because we had a long day ahead including a ferry crossing to the main land but Andrew had to do more research about the Bugatti since something did not look right to him at the front end – after researching it late into the night, he confirmed it was not an original Bugatti but a replica based on a VW beetle chassis – so well done, if you noticed that there were front disc brakes and the front axle was not original and of course it should have not been left hand drive if it was an original Bucatti.
