After a sleep in until the sun warmed up the tent and a late breakfast on the lake shore with the clouds covering the volcano, we checked the forecast and while the following day had more sunny periods forecasted, it was also supposed to get very windy, and the clouds seemed to clear in the early afternoon, so we decided to head up the road to the start of two chairlifts up the volcano. We stopped at the ranger station at Lago Verde and asked for tickets but he told us no ticket so we headed up the road – what a road and what an amazing ride up to the chair lift station. We paid for both chair lifts return trips and rode up the mountain. The second chairlift reached into the snow covered parts of the volcano and it got very windy and cold and we hiked up to 1671m. The wind was hauling so strong that it almost blew us off, but the views of the entire Andes mountain range and down over the lake and up to the top of the volcano were breathtaking and yet another highlight of our trip 🏔️. The chairlift ride down provided new vistas of the red crater ( crater Rojo) and the lake with the clouds moving in.

When we returned to our campsite, we enjoyed a swim in the lake at the setting sun and a spectacular sunset turning the sky on fire. After another good camp dinner, we headed to bed for another great night sleep in our tent with temperatures even cooler than the night before.
