After a nice breakfast, we were able to leave our laundry to be done at the hotel and decided to head into town as the forecasted rain had not arrived – it was very cloudy and we could not see the volcano on the other side of the lake, but it did not rain. We first went to the iconic theatre on the waterfront (Teatro del Lago) and heard music in the distance and saw runners with medals – we followed the promenade and saw a big running event (run Frutillar) with the last competitors arriving at the finish line. We continued along the foreshore, visited the Catholic Church and then an open air museum of German settlement (Museo Colonial Akemán) which was very nice but everything was only in Spanish – no English or German signage. We had lunch in a nice art café and met a couple from Switzerland (Raphael and his partner from Finland) and exchanged whats’app details.

We then walked passed the German school in town and then looked for a place to have Jause – coffee and cake – which should not have been difficult in a town with German influence. The first place we tried had only take away coffee in paper cups and the raspberry crumble we had ordered contained cinnamon (which I am allergic to) but we sat on outside tables and there were lovely bird noises from hummingbirds flying around a bush of Tränendes Herz – bleeding heart (Dicentra spectabilis). We eventually got some good videos of the very fast fluttering hummingbirds. We continued to look for a coffe shop and eventually settled for de la Oma’s place which had lovely coffee and hot chocolate and an amazing cake layered with marzipan and red currants. From there we had an early shared salmon dinner at tge café restaurant von Bischoffshausen (they had lots of owls as decorations 🦉) and headed back to the hotel hoping to have a drink at the hotel bar. The bar did not offer any drinks other than wine and beer even though it has a full range of all liqueur but they can’t mix any drinks – very disappointing as it advertised the hotel bar in this very upmarket hotel 🙁 We settled for a glass of Merlot and worked on our blogs while being eaten alive by mosquitos 🙁 but they had a cute turtle figurine on the bar 🐢 😉

When we returned to our room the heater was off and it was too cold to be comfortable. Andrew went to the front desk and they provided us with a portable electric heater. There was also no hot water for a shower until after 11:00pm when a guy took over the night shift at reception. So we only got a hot shower at midnight and then worked on a few blogs for another 3 hours before calling it a night.
