We enjoyed another good breakfast and packed the bikes – it still looked very cloudy and we had a few sprinkles of rain and during our entire stay for more than 48 hours, we did not once get a glimpse of volcano Osorno on the other side of the lake as the clouds were hanging too low – we were so lucky with the weather when we visited the volcano and camped at Ensenada 🙏🤗

We decided to put full wet weather gear back on and fuelled up in Frutillar Alto and made our way North through farmland with windmills and past lakes and over many one lane bridges. The wind was quite strong but nothing compared to what we had experienced in the Patagonian steppe of Argentina. There were several short gravel sections usually before the single lane bridges and a number of roadworks with contra flow traffic and sometimes long waiting times. The riding was pleasant apart from the occasional dog that appeared from nowhere and chased our bikes. We rode until my phone ran out of charge in Llifén and we stopped to have some empanadas while the phone charged enough to make it to our accommodation in Futrono. The caretaker was from France and he showed us the cabaña which was very cozy. There was a lot of handcrafted wooden items and the night stand was made out of egg cartons 😉.

We had a short rest and awoke to heavy rain – and we had not yet covered the bikes 🙁🥺. We eventually went out and stocked up on essentials for breakfast and then walked through town and past the local fire station (obligatory pictures for Peter and Martina) and also found a grocery store with my Mum’s name 🤗😉. We went for dinner to a Chilean restaurant and I tried the poor man’s steak for the first time which was very nice 😉. We were lucky to get home in between heavy rain storms and it rained for most of the night.
