In the morning we had to pick up the intercom and order our breakfast which was delivered 20 minutes later through the delivery box on the wall. Breakfast was nice with fresh orange juice, coffee and croissants.
The bad news for the morning was that my whole upper lip and inside of my nose was breaking out in cold sores π₯Ί which is not surprising given how sick I was and how little sleep I had.
I completed a blog or two and we got ready to leave by 11:30 am not knowing how we would check out of this secure facility. We had the garage door open while loading our bikes as the light in the garage was not working and Andrew said a friendly hello to one of the female staff walking around delivering items – she first shyly walked away but later came back and saw our motorcycles and then started to tell us that her husband has an Africa Twin motorcycle and she took pictures and then pointed us in the right direction to get out and helped at the check-out.
We had to ride 297 km and had a hotel booked in Frederico Westphalen – we choose the towns we stay in mostly by whether there was anything available through booking.com – but in Brazil very few hotels are listed on booking.com (and quite a few seem to be these sex motels π) – and even fewer have a WhatsApp number which is the only way for us to contact them since we canβt make local calls without paying exorbitant roaming fees plus we would not be able to hold a phone conversation in Portuguese anyway π
We rode for 174 km and the countryside changed from mostly flat farmland to more hilly areas and more curves and windy roads. We stopped at Panambi for petrol and had toasted ham cheese sandwiches for lunch at a restaurant next to the petrol station.
We continued riding along Ruta 158 and all day we dealt with slow trucks and avoiding cars which engaged in ridiculously dangerous overtaking often resulting in us having to wait for another opportunity – it was slow and frustrating to say the least.
By the time we arrived in Frederico Westphalen it was getting dark and where my phone told me the hotel was, there was nothing – we took an unpaved side road next to the main road to see if the hotel was there, but could not find it. Andrew tried with his phone and we rode around the block one more time and ended up on the same dirt road – still no hotel – a local in a small van stopped next to us and asked us to follow him – we were more than 2 km away from the hotel – he guided us directly to the hotel car park – we would have never found it without his help ππ.
We checked in and went next door for dinner which had all you can eat grilled steak and sausages plus rice, salad, chips, and a few more typical Brazilian side dishes. We called it an early night as we had another big day of riding ahead of us.

Love to hear from you
