We had an early morning and went for breakfast at the Karavan cafe with Brad and Bianca, the Australians staying at the hostel. We had a great morning and then kept chatting while packing up and somehow it was 3:00pm by the time we were finally ready to leave😂🤗. As we were putting the last things on the bike the grumpy couple that had been staying there for days but never said hello, was waiting to be picked up for a tour and they asked where we were from. Turns out they lived in Hornsby – near Andrew’s old stomping ground and the guy was the younger brother of a good friend of Andrew’s brother – what a small world – and they were still the least friendly people we had met on our entire trip 😉 although we saw the guy smile for the first time when they worked out the connection and he said “it made his day” 🤗. We said our good-byes to all the lovely people at the hostel and rode off towards Calama. The total distance was 100km and we were riding into the setting sun. The road stayed high above 2500m and at some stage we were up at 3400m again. The roads were endless straight through rock deserts and nothing growing at all. There were wind turbines and solar panels and power lines and dust from trucks on dirt roads and the temperature started to drop in the late afternoon. We rode into Calama after 5:00pm and parked the bikes in the parking garage of the hotel. We went for dinner at the closest restaurant which had amazing food and good drinks. We returned to our hotel and had a hot shower and an early night.

Love to hear from you
